About the Looped Stem Stitch.
The Looped Stem Stitch is Stem Stitch with a dimension. It can be used creatively to make floral motifs. This stitch would follow the same technique as the Stem Stitch, except that the stitches are not laid flat but raised slightly by keeping it as a loop each time. The result is a beautiful arch-like structure that is perfect for mimicking petals and contributing to dimensional embroidery. Using a thicker thread might give a sturdier look than a thinner thread, which will throw a more delicate feel.
How to do the Looped Stem Stitch
Fig 1: Bring out the needle the same way as you would for the Stem Stitch. Remember to keep the working thread below the stitch line. |
Fig 2: Pull out the needle, but make sure not to do so completely. Instead, let the stitch form a small loop as shown. |
Fig 3: Continue to make more stitches. Make sure to keep each stitch as a loop and not lay too flat against the fabric. | Fig 4: This is a side view of the stitch to show the beautiful shape it forms. The loops stay upright when looked at from the top. |
