This is a very basic stitch that illustrates how you can use the Herringbone Stitches to create patterns. This Herringbone Square Stitch also lays the foundation for weaving and graduates into a more intricate pattern. This stitch is very easy to do and can make a great isolated stitch.
Fig 1: Follow the markings from A to E to guide you through how to make the Herringbone Stitches in different directions. This will create a square shape. | Fig 2: Make sure that when you do the last leg of the stitch, to pass the needle over E-F and under A-B, before going in through H. This will hold all the straight stitches in place. Note how each straight stitch has gone over and under each other at least once. |
Fig 3: A finished base will look like this. Try experimenting and making two or three bases over each other with different colors. |
