Star Stitch

Star Stitch is also known as

Puntada de Estrella Para Bordar[ES], Point étoile Pour la Broderie [FR], Sternstich zum Sticken [DE], Ponto Estrela Para Bordadoa [PT].

About the Star Stitch

The Star Stitch is made by working something similar to the Sprat’s Head Stitch on its arms. The result is a pattern that is undeniably close in resemblance to a starfish! You can apply this stitch on any pattern that can accommodate this technique. Use this pretty stitch on anything you want to pep up a bit. It is the perfect stitch to apply for a Christmas theme.

How to do the Star Stitch

I will work on a 5 point star that is joined together in the center with 5 spokes. The stitch will be done on each of the ‘diamond’ shaped arms to fill in the star.

Fig 1: Start by drawing a star shape and join the arms with spokes in the center, as shown. Fig 2: Now, pick an arm to work on. Start by coming out from one corner and go in through the pointy corner to pluck a bit of fabric.
Fig 3: Come back to the other corner and go in through it to come out back from the earlier corner. Fig 4: Continue this process of the stitch. The technique will be similar to what you follow to work the Sprat’s Head Stitch.
Fig 5: Work one arm all the way to the middle to finish it. Fig 6: You will work every arm this way.
Fig 7: Your finished star will look more or less like this.
