About the Looped Cretan Stitch
The Looped Cretan Stitch is a beautiful variation of the Cretan Stitch that will remind you of a delicate stem of leaves. Needless to say, it works amazingly as botanical parts and makes for a beautiful and elegant decoration. Vary the angles and lengths of the stitches to achieve various effects.
How to do the Looped Cretan Stitch
Fig 1: Start the way you would start the Cretan Stitch between 3 stitch lines. You can adjust the angle of the stitch as you want. I will keep it straight in my first stitch. | Fig 2: Next, pass the needle through the earlier stitch point and come out from the stitch line in the middle, as shown. Loop the thread under it before pulling out the needle. |
Fig 3: Repeat the process on the other side. This time, I will increase the angle or depth of my stitch. | Fig 4: Keep up with this process for the entire row. |
Fig 5: A section of my finished row would look like this. |

Dear Sarah ji, I would find it helpful to practice the stem stitch more and upload again next week, before moving on to the chain stitch. I remember that you asked me to complete a stitch every fortnight, so I will of course keep to your plan. Thank you so much for your loving kindness. Emily
Sounds good, Emily! I am so happy that you are keeping up with your stitching. It is lovely to see your progress.
Dear Sarah ji, thank you for seeing me and helping me to see myself more clearly, one stitch at a time.
Dear Sarah ji. I hope that you can see my attached humble new beginning. One year later, I have completed the running stitch again (in gold thread) and will follow your weekly stitch plan, hoping to make you proud! Love, Emily.
Dear Sarah Ji. I am not sure if my picture showed, so this is another effort at sending. Thank you so much. Emily ☺️
I Emily, I am so thrilled to hear back from you. I love that you are back to stitching and finishing the project. You have all my support. Reach out to me anytime! ❤️
