Wave Chain Stitch is also known as
Waved Chain Stitch [EN].
About the Wave Chain Stitch
The Wave Chain Stitch is a creative variation of the Chain Stitch, and probably an extension of the Shell Chain Stitch. A set of three Chain Stitches are placed side by side in ascending order of height towards one direction, followed by another similar set in the other. This creates a wave pattern in the row, contributing to the name of this stitch.
How to do the Wave Chain Stitch
Fig 1: Start by making a simple Chain Stitch. | Fig 2: Now, make your next chain by going in next to your earlier chain and coming out at roughly twice the length of the earlier stitch, as shown. |
Fig 3: Next, work another slightly longer Chain Stitch next to the second one. This is one set of Chain Stitches. | Fig 4: To make the next set, work the first small Chain Stitch connecting the previous long one, as shown. |
Fig 5: Now, you will make a longer chain connecting the longest stitch from the previous set, and place it towards the left of the earlier stitch. | Fig 6: Again, make a longer chain towards the left of the previous row. That will finish the second set. |
Fig 7: Continue the process of making sets of three chains alternating the sides each time. | Fig 8: A portion of the row will look like this. It reminds me of wings! |
