About the Sailor Stitch
The Sailor Stitch is a combination of the Chain Stitch and the Blanket Stitch. Using vertical and horizontal strokes of stitches, this beautiful stitch is excellent to create borders and bases for embellished outlines. It is perfect for crazy quilting projects. Try slipping in a bead or a sequin to add bling and interest to the stitch. Work between two parallel lines.
How to do the Sailor Stitch
Fig 1: Start by working a Blanket Stitch between the two stitch lines, as shown. | Fig 2: Now, do a Chain Stitch on the left side stitch line. |
Fig 3: Next, work another Blanket Stitch that would emerge from inside the Chain Stitch. | Fig 4: Again, make another Chain Stitch connecting the previous chain. |
Fig 5: Keep up with the process of making Blanket Stitches and Chain Stitches for the entire row. finish the row as you would for the Chain Stitch, with a small anchor. |
