Overlayed Threaded Chain Stitch is also known as
Overlayed Laced Chain Stitch [EN].
About the Overlayed Threaded Chain Stitch
The Overlayed Laced Chain Stitch is a fantastic example of the many ways in which you can use the Chain Stitch in different variations! This laced version of the Chain Stitch uses both sides of each chain or loop to weave the tread under.
How to do the Overlayed Threaded Chain Stitch
Fig 1: Lay a foundation of Chain Stitch. Use a contrasting thread and come out from one end of the Chain Stitch row. Take the thread through each loop of chain made to give a whipped appearance. | Fig 2: Next, pass it under the right half of the next chain. Keep up with this process for the entire row of the Chain Stitch. |
Fig 3: A section of the Overlayed Laced Chain Stitch will appear like this. You will see that the laced thread is more visible in this variation. |

I haven’t seen this version of Chain stitch before. Thanks Sarah for sharing.
Sure, Maureen. This is a variation that I experimented with and liked. It is great to work on delicate borders and edgings. 🙂
This is so helpful to see them together so I can see the difference between 2 similar stitches.
Thank you, Deborah. Happy that you liked our stitch dictionary. 🙂
