About the Double Whipped Chain Stitch

The Double Whipped Chain Stitch is an improvisation over the Whipped Chain Stitch. Using whippings that run in both directions, we try to create a cross over the laid row of the Chain Stitch. It is a wonderfully decorative stitch, especially if you want to play around with different colors.

How to do the Double Whipped Chain Stitch

You need to know the Chain Stitch and the Whipped Chain Stitch to do this variation.

Fig 1: Lay a foundation of Chain Stitch. Work the whipping over it to make a row of the Whipped Chain Stitch. Fig 2: Now, work another layer of whipping, only this time, it will run in the opposite direction of the earlier whipping. So, if you passed your needle from left to right under the Chain Stitch for your earlier whipping, this time, you will pass under the same Chain Stitch from right to left. This will cause the whipped thread to lay across each other giving
Fig 3: A section of the Double Whipped Chain Stitch will appear like this.
