This page gives you an idea of what the reverse of the basic stitches looks like.
As a beginner, we are curious to know how the reverse or the back-side should end up – just to make sure that we are stitching the right way. So, I have picked the 12 Basic Stitches to show you how the reverse would look like. I sometimes use the reverse of a stitch to understand if my stitches are of equal length and in equal distance.
While all the straight line stitches like the Chain Stitch fall in a neat line, the standalone stitches like the French Knots can look a little random or chaotic because of the thread that is drawn from one stitch to the other. It is great to keep the reverse of a hand embroidery project neat, but it is perfectly ok if it does not look as good as the project itself! As long as there are no loose or unpulled threads, and the beginning and ending knots are secured neatly, there is no need to worry about the chaos left behind by your hand embroidery project on the reverse side!

Thank you for contacting me for the hand embroidery classes. You are doing a wonderful thing by trying to introduce your 12-year-old to hand embroidery.
Yes, I do take classes for kids in the US. Canada will mean the same for me in terms of time-zone. 🙂
Please use my email id, sarah@rocksea.org so that we can discuss this further and I can have more details to schedule a class for your daughter.
I will wait for your email.
