Stitch flowers using the Lazy Daisy Stitch.
The daisy flower is probably the most commonly stitched of all flowers, thanks to a very friendly stitch called the Lazy Daisy. So, I am going to kick start this section with the daisy flower. I will show two profiles of this flower using the Lazy Daisy Stitch. This is a fantastic flower for beginners to work on. Make them big or small, or even tiny, I am sure you will enjoy stitching it.
Fig 1: Get your fabric, hoop, and threads ready. | Fig 2: Start using the Lazy Daisy Stitch. Work from the inner circle to the out one. |
Fig 3: Sometimes, it is a challenge to keep the petals straight when working around two circles. So, always gauge where you want to place the petal with the needle first. If you want, make a hole in the outer circle with the needle to mark the location. | Fig 4: A completed bloomed daisy flower will look like this. |
Fig 5: To work on a side view of the flower, start from the center of the pattern, as shown. | Fig 6: After working on one side, come back to the center and work on the other side. |
Fig 7: Both the flowers are now ready to be given finishing touches. | Fig 8: You may fill in the center with any stitch of your choice, the popular one being the French Knots. |
Fig 9: The flowers now come alive with the center filled in. | Fig 10: I finished it using the Back Stitch for the stem. |
TIPS to make your leaf beautiful:
- Always draw two circles- one inner and the other outer- to guide you with the stitches.
- Gauge the placement of the petals with the needle first. This helps in keeping the petal straight.
- When working on half flowers, make the petal in the center first and then work towards the ends on both sides.
Thank you… finally a clear explanation of this. But do you have instructions on begin/end with no knots? Can you show how to keep back neat when doing a clump of these flowers?
