How to do Bead Embroidery with the Woven Wheel
The Woven Wheel stitch is most often used to make roses. The center is usually filled with another stitch. Try the beads, instead, this time! Also, find ideas to use Woven Wheels in more ways than just to create flowers- make it glamorous by adding beads to the spokes on the outside or even in between the weaves. I have shown three super easy variations. Which one do you find the best?
Sample 1: Beads in the center
Fig 1: Come out with your needle at a point in your fabric. Slip in a sequin, or a big bead, or a bead, like a bugle. I am using a sequin. | Fig 2: Next, slip in a small bead to follow the earlier bead or sequin. |
Fig 3: Draw out the needle and push them both down to the base of the fabric. See how the smaller bead sits on the bigger sequin. | Fig 4: Now, get the smaller bead out of the way and pass the needle back into the fabric only through the first bigger piece. |
Fig 5: This secures both the pieces in place. The bead pins down the bigger one. | Fig 5: This is a perfect method to use on isolated beads and sequins. |
Sample 2: Beads on the outside
Fig 1: Come out with your needle at a point in your fabric. Slip in a sequin, or a big bead, or a bead, like a bugle. I am using a sequin. | Fig 2: Next, slip in a small bead to follow the earlier bead or sequin. |
Fig 3: Draw out the needle and push them both down to the base of the fabric. See how the smaller bead sits on the bigger sequin. |
Sample 3: Beads in random
Fig 1: Come out with your needle at a point in your fabric. Slip in a sequin, or a big bead, or a bead, like a bugle. I am using a sequin. | Fig 2: Next, slip in a small bead to follow the earlier bead or sequin. |
Fig 3: Draw out the needle and push them both down to the base of the fabric. See how the smaller bead sits on the bigger sequin. | Fig 4: Now, get the smaller bead out of the way and pass the needle back into the fabric only through the first bigger piece. |

Thanks Sarah, for this different version of the Woven Wheel. I haven’t seen this method with beads and will try it as soon as possible .
Awesome, Maureen! I particularly liked the first variation. I hope you have fun trying them all. ☺️
