Bead embroidery is a type of embroidery that uses various hand stitching methods to secure beads to fabric.
Hand Embroidery and Beads
Hand Embroidery stitches can be used beautifully to apply embellishments to the fabric. Beads are some of the most common decorations used to add glitz and texture to your work. When you use hand embroidery stitches to secure beads, the embellishments become a part of the stitch itself.

Needles to use: If your beads have a big hole, a medium-sized embroidery needle should work. If they have small holes, go for a milliner’s needle- it has never disappointed me. Either way, do test your needle through a few beads before starting to work.
Types of beads: I usually avoid sugar beads and use 3mm beads or bigger. The 3mm beads pass through my embroidery needles most of the time. Some beads get stuck in the eye. So, I use a milliner’s needle which helps me with that. Check out the Different Types of Beads and Embellishments used in Hand Embroidery.
